This wonderful town was first mentioned in 831, so it had plenty of time to become a centre of dazzling architecture and it is certainly the world´s unique. It is best known as the site of a massive baroque Benedictine monastery on the hill above the town.

This lovely town is situated in between enormous rock walls and crystal-clear lake. It is well known for salt production and was declared as one of the World Heritage Sites in Austria by UNESCO for its unique history and breathtaking appearance.
